It seems as though Mary Berry's Bake Off fever has it new high as Bath's printing guru David Ghent, owner of Minuteman Press on Walcot Street, demonstrates that it is not just the world of printing that he has mastered.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend David decided to enter his infamous Victoria Sponge cake into Westwood Flower Show's men's class and came first with exceptional comment from judges. They wrote, "Excellent example of a classic Victoria Sponge and very good to eat".
David said of his achievement, "I have always enjoyed a spot of baking, in between golfing and gardening, so when I heard that the Westwood Flower Show were putting on a category just for men, I thought that it would be fun to enter. I hadn't for one moment thought that I might come first."
Back in the office on Tuesday morning, Dave Dixon said of the boss's achievement, "David has always been quite competitive, it is therefore no surprise that he'd enter such a contest.
May be there's a higher calling for David, the team here are delighted for him and hope to see in him in next year's Great British Bake Off. That will have the added bonus of getting him away from the office a little bit more too."
